 Edgar and Iris
Growing up, Edgar had it rough.
He was raised in a broken home, where he suffered from both physical and emotional abuse. Members of his immediate family struggled with alcoholism. The lack of hope in Edgar's life made him bitter and angry.
"When I was in high school, I was enraged. I started using alcohol and fell in with the wrong crowd. I took my anger out on the people around me. I had started imitating my family's mistakes, because by then it had been normal in my life. It wasn't until my senior year in high school that God began to reveal himself to me."
Iris grew up in the church. Her father is a pastor. She went to a Christian school. If anybody should have had a handle on following Jesus, it was her.
"I accepted Jesus at a very young age," Iris recalls. "I've always loved God and I've always believed in Jesus and understood what he did for me. But that doesn't mean I didn't go through a time of rebellion. I wasn't into drugs or alcohol, but I was really into the party scene. I just wanted to live life and have fun. I didn't really care what God wanted for me. But God's presence was always there and when I was in those situations I felt uncomfortable, like God wanted me to remember him."
Then, Iris met Edgar. About that time Iris came back to the God whom she had loved since she was a child, wanting Edgar to love her God as well. Edgar began to notice that Iris was living a different kind of life from the other people he knew. Eventually with Iris' encouragement, Edgar started following Jesus himself.
For many of us, our earliest memories are painful ones, stories of how something is terribly wrong with the world. And we all have stories of how we are part of that problem - how we've hurt people or seen someone in need and not helped. For Edgar, it was his anger. For some people, it's an addiction, hatred or apathy. And even though we do it, we have a sense that it's not what we were intended for.
This book tells of how Jesus came to change all of this. On page 42, he is talking about how much he loves people. He says, "I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." In this book, we learn a whole new way of living. It's the life that Iris came back to and one she introduced Edgar to. And it's a life he offers to everyone, no exceptions.
Today, Edgar and Iris are faithfully following Jesus as husband and wife. They have also been blessed with a beautiful daughter named Maia Isabella. They've left their old way of life behind for the new life that comes through faith in Christ. "I am a man of God now. I am passionate about serving him and following him to the end. Everything I have in my life is there because God has given it to me. Iris and I want to pass on this legacy to our daughter."
Edgar and Iris have had the story of their lives rewritten. They had been searching for God most of their lives. Then God found them and their whole lives changes. They are now a part of God's mission of re-creation, of restoring the world according to the intentions God had for it all along.

Edgar and Iris
Edgar tuvo una infancia difícil.
Se crió en un hogar deshecho donde fue víctima de abuso tanto físico como emocional. Familiares muy cercanos se mantenían en el alcoholismo. La falta de esperanza en la vida de Edgar hizo que creciera lleno de amargura y de ira.
"Mientras estudiaba el bachillerato me sentía furioso. Comencé a tomar bebidas embriagantes y me uní al grupo equivocado. Me enojaba con la gente que me rodeaba. Empecé a imitar los errores de mi familia porque para entonces eso había sido lo normal en mi vida. Fue en el último año de bachillerato cuando Dios comenzó a revelarse en mí."
Iris creció en la iglesia. Su papá es pastor. Asistió a un colegio cristiano. Si alguien tenía los elementos para seguir a Jesús, era ella.
"Acepté a Cristo a tierna edad," recuerda Iris. "Siempre he amado a Dios y creído en Jesús, y entendía lo que él hizo por mí. Pero eso no significa que no hubiera experimentado momentos de rebeldía. Nunca busqué las drogas ni el alcohol, pero me encantaban las fiestas. Quería vivir la vida y divertirme. No me importaba mucho el plan que Dios tenía para mí. Pero su presencia siempre estuvo allí y cuando me encontraba en esas situaciones me sentía incómoda, como que si Dios quisiera que lo recordara."
Posteriormente Iris y Edgar se conocieron. Para entonces Iris se había vuelto al Dios que había amado desde que era niña, y quería que Edgar amara también a su Dios. Edgar comenzó a notar que Iris vivía una clase de vida diferente a la de la gente que él conocía. Poco a poco, con el apoyo y estímulo de Iris, Edgar comenzó a seguir a Jesús.
Para la mayoría de nosotros, los recuerdos de nuestra infancia son dolorosos, historias de cómo algo anda mal con el mundo. Y todos tenemos historias de cómo somos parte de ese problema; cómo hemos lastimado a otras personas o visto a alguien en necesidad y no lo hemos ayudado. Para Edgar fue su ira, su enojo. Para otras personas es una adicción, el odio o la apatía. Y aunque lo hacemos, nos queda la sensación de que no nacimos para eso.
Este libro nos habla de cómo Jesús vino a cambiarlo todo. En la página 42 nos dice lo mucho que ama a la gente: "Yo he venido para que tengan vida, y la tengan en abundancia." En este libro aprendemos una nueva manera de vivir. Es la vida a la que Iris regresó y la que le presentó a Edgar. Y es una vida que Jesús les ofrece a todos, sin excepción.
Hoy Edgar e Iris siguen fielmente a Jesús como esposos. Han sido bendecidos con una hermosa hijita, Maia Isabella. Ambos dejaron su antigua vida para cambiarla por la vida nueva que nos llega mediante la fe en Cristo Jesús. "Ahora soy un hombre de Dios. Me apasiona servirlo y seguirlo hasta el final. Todo lo que tengo en la vida es porque Dios me lo ha dado. Iris y yo queremos dejarle este legado a nuestra hija."
La historia de las vidas de Edgar e Iris se escribió de nuevo. La mayor parte de sus vidas la pasaron en busca de Dios. Y cuando tuvieron su encuentro con Dios, sus vidas cambiaron totalmente. Ahora son parte de la misión de Dios de recrear el mundo, de restaurarlo para que esté otra vez de acuerdo con el designio para el que fue creado por Dios.
